Lake Winnebago

The sudden crush you order online.
The leaden rush to finish on time.

How life piles like new fallen snow.
How the miles stretch before the plow.

The ambient sound of deciduous leaves.
The unbent memory of hesitant rovers.

How winter came to us unasked for.
How better days return and hover.

Orpheus & Eurydice #1

remembering the tango I watched
how it felt mature and meaningful
how it was mysterious and murky
before the building observations of
oddly shaped relationships
sans sex, commitment, and the
pursuit of completion

remembering the tango
dip and drive of people
hundreds of years older than

what were my twenty-seven years to
his sixty-four and her forty-four

how closure was completely overlooked
in the shuffle and hoo-haw
surrounding abandonment and death
