in its damp basement.

A Brief Explanation as to Why I Don’t Sleep at Night (Another Insomnia Poem)
I nail my long-dead influences
and my aging fluencies

Daily Report
The morning sun rises,
breathing fire over the smoke
of the Bolt Creek fire.
We breathe each other’s breath,
recirculating a still-indistinct
longing for a different kind
of fire. One brother’s pyre,
then another’s, and another's,
and me still here, waiting.

Weeds in the Salvage Yard
Don’t know what you are looking for? You’ll know it when you see it. Don’t know what you are looking for? Will you know it when you see it? Don’t know what you are looking for? If you see it, will you know it? How do you know that you are seeing it? How do you know what you are seeing? How do you know what you haven’t seen? Will you see it when you don’t know it? Will you not know it when you see it? Will you not know that you're not seeing it? What are you looking for?

Palimpsest
What did I use as a painting tool
to spread those blue words
kneeling in my fleshy reflection?
The seasons come and go,
come and go, come and go.
Come.
And go.
Hiding is a form of disappearance.
Rarity precedes extinction.
The manuscript is leaving the station.
The last train has been erased.
