Gleaning the beach

for sand dollars and limpets, 

one-lined pebbles and beach glass, 

sea weed and clever stones 

that look like mortadella. 

Ordering the damp slump 

of detritus into a natural study

of chaos among wine glasses

and linen napkins, silver forks

and the talk of the dinner party.
