Nirvana

First Poet: “My Pandemic Playgrounds poems were inspired by your teeter-totter poem.”

Second Poet: “I was imagining some kind of scale or balance that would never even out.”

FP: “Seesaws and teeter-totters always have a heavy end.”

SP: “Yes, because at rest one side is always down, one side is up.”

FP: “Even in motion, balance is nearly impossible. Maybe balance is nirvana.”

science tells us Saturn is less dense than the Earth

and would float in a larger-than-Saturn tub of water

commensurately, there is no scale large enough

playful enough, joyful and thorough enough

to measure the continual actual balances

between our North American diagonals
