Nightjar

Motel sign

sputtering

Vacancy

in the dark.

The vastness,

the possibility,

when no

No

precedes it.

Nightjars in Daylight

We rest and roost

wherever we please,

even here in the road,

concealed as we are

by dullness, the glory

of our plumage.

We have small feet

and walk slowly.

We are meant to fly.

Disorder A tabletop full   of early spring flowers. A pantry crammed   with empty vessels. No one feels   like eating. [LSS, 3/16/26]
