Those Phone Calls

mirrors like oyster shells
knifing your water shoes and
well-turned ankles

you leave the smart phone on the jetty
hesitant cephalopods make long distance calls
to cuttlefish cousins in the Indian Ocean

midnight in the Maldives, noon in Langley
whimsical, lackadaisical, chitinous
lots of gabby chit-chat

each unique disease treated with
self-contained conundrums, substantial
caveats and cravats, stumbling

wrapped around your little finger
