Bird’s Eye Maple: The Woodworker’s Wife

I didn’t really need another eye.

I already have the three.

And yet here one is on the night stand

right where you said it would be.

It must have been hard work

turning that lump of wood

into this splendid oracle.

And how amazing the number

of pupils a single eye can have!

And so no surprise to see

the eye now turning itself

away from the light, asking

to be left alone in this dark room.
